Neil Hamel is a woman attorney in Albuquerque who is a little different that your run-of-the-mill mystery protagonist lawyer. For one thing, she has young latino boyfriend who is a mechanic (I think--I read this a long time ago). She gets involved in interesting cases and mysteries, though, and this is a good one.

Excellent story about attorney Neil Hame, who leaves her struggling law practice in Albequerque to take a case in the border country.

Then the murder happens, and the environmentalist she is supposed to help is the prime suspect.
