I love paranormal romance, and this is one of the worst books I've read so far. The beginning was hard to follow because the author was using terms without explaining what they are, so it was a guessing game. Then there is no development of the characters, they are so horny from the start, there is no building to the relationship between the characters, therefore the reader looses the anticipation of how the relationship will develop. It felt corny & so perdictable, like a bad movie, a lot of stress on the sexual aspect with poor plot & characters.
Alys flees her abusive uncle (a powerful wizard) to take refuge on an isle where her childhood sweetheart lives in exile with his seven brothers.
Really cool story with lots of magic and adventure, as well as a romance both spicy and sweet.

I read the first book, The Sword, and enjoyed the fantasy world Johnson created and the premise of the 8 brothers and their destiny was a new twist. The Wolf did not meet up to the standard of the first book.
I felt like there was way to much page space being done in the book, what with all the info from the prostitute. I expected Wolfer and Alys to grow in their new found love and friendship instead the sex scenes. All the double info that was really not needed at all.
Instead of the quite and gentle nature Wolfer had, he is now an angry man who constantly loses his temper and storms around. I was looking forward to his story, based upon how he was written in "The Sword." So this was a bit disappointing as well.
In fact, one of the most intriguing aspects of THE WOLF is watching Alys come alive! As a free woman, she is beginning to recognize her own sense of empowerment. Teaming a personality like Alys up with Kelly, especially in the dojo scenes to gain confidence was good.
I still plan to read the next one. The Master is suppose to take place in another culture.

This was a very exciting series to find by Jean Johnson. This I believe was book 4, personally I would read them in order. She does an outstanding job with excitement and romance. SHe also has a sense of humor. Definately a MUST read series!
the best reason to like this book is not because its a fast easy read with an interesting storyline but for the interaction between the brothers that make you laugh.
This book would be much more enjoyable if it lacked Kelly. She is even more annoying than the first book. I found myself skipping any part that had to do with Kelly opening her mouth.
I like the characters and situations, but the sex is more graphic then I like. I'm going to finish the series, but will be skipping big parts of the book.
Wolfer and Alys love story is really great. I liked seeing a childhood friendship turn into a great love.
This was a good book, 2nd in the series of 8, can't wait to read the rest of them.
Enjoyable book. I got kind of lost in some bits because i'd be reading and something would happen and i would be like..."What? Where did that come from?"...Still an enjoyable book though. I love this series and the idea of eight brothers and eight destinies..Awweesomme!! But anyway "Wolf"...My favorite person, Alys..she's just so cute and hilarious. And loving how jealous Wolf can get and how shocked he is by Alys being a grown up etc..
Fun, interesting series as a whole. With well developed characters and some likable personalities, or at least likable brothers. The Sons of Destiny live in a magic dominate world and when a seer makes a prediction about eight brothers (four sets of twins) that will bring about disaster, the people of their world decide to exile them to their own island alone. Since the prediction seems to be largely based on the fact that they will meet their true loves, the council believes if the keep them exiled and not allowed any women near them they they can prevent the disaster from ever happening. They don't even think about "trying" to kill them since the brothers are the strongest thing around magically, but it doesn't stop some people from covertly sending dangerous magical creatures to take them out.............
********** SPOILER ALERT ******* The island alone doesn't keep women off the island either, apparently. It the first book, Kelly is brought through magically from Earth, and creates all kinds of mayhem domesticating the men gone ummm wild. She is bossy and annoying in an endearing sort of way. In this novel, an old childhood friend runs away from her psychotic, murder driven uncle, to find Wolfer the love of her life. Allys spills her secret: she was forced to feed war-monsters and help her crazy uncle to ship them to the island to kill off the Count line, so that the Acting Count can take over ruling the lands. She also tells the brothers that the Uncle has hexed him self and any attempt to harm him will rebound on the attacker. Kelly comes up with a solution to rebound a kill spell so that said uncle kills him self when he tries to kill any of them. And while they are manufacturing reflecting mirrors, said Uncle kills his brother and uses the corpse to open the gate to Hell and from there a doorway to the island. Bringing with him all kinds of beats to kill the brothers off. The mirrors fail, and Ethan the song master uses his voice to reflect the kill spell the uncle sent at Allys his niece. Uncle dies and they offer his soul to seal the Hell gate. However the Hex rebounds at Ethan and he is now voiceless. As in no voice box, no larynges. It simply is magically removed. The end.

I gave this book three stars instead of five because I didn't think it had as much action or creativity in this one as much as the first. Actually it had the first "Im running away chapters" that were interesting and the "conclusion battle" chapter.... everything in between was pretty much a non discript gray meh that was there just for the word count. In short this book suffered from the MIDDLE BOOK COMPLEX. Kelley is more annoying than funny! The whole pages of kung fu lessons could have been cut from the book. I mean, really, what was the purpose of all that anyway? Also he scene with the whore who spends two hours giving Alys sex advice could have been cut, too. It was an overkill. I have read other books in the series (out of order) and though some are better and some not so great, they all seem to be better than this one. This is the weakest story in the series.

Second book in a Fantacy Romance sereies. This one was definitely more romance than fantacy story line. Since I was reading for the neat story line started in the first book and not for the romance, I was less impressed with this book than the first one, The Sword.
Was totally worth the wait to get The Wolf. While I did not like the first book in the series the second one rocked! This is a book for people who like magic, secrets, humor and shapeshifters.
I definitely liked Book #2 better than the first. The main characters were a lot more likeable. (I dislike Kelly from the first book). Alys comes to Nightfall Island to escape her evil uncle who is basically trying to get rid of the brothers. She has been friends with the brothers since childhood, and is the destined mate for Wolfer. Great story - lots of action. I like how each book so far as a plotline not only within the story itself, but also lends itself to the overall story of the 8 brothers. I recommend this one! Let's hope #3 is as good.
This was a pretty good book I had started it once gotten busy and then went back to it quite awhile later but glad I did because i did not remember the beginning at all and it was a very important part of the story. I am intrigued though and following up with the rest of the series. It was a nice story.
