There have been several biographies of Cherokee chief Wilma Mankiller in the past year, but one gets the impression from those titles that she is an anomaly. This book puts her firmly back into the strong Indian tradition of female leadership. Black-and-white photographs with very good captions appear throughout the book, as do poems by Indian women. A full-color center section presents contemporary artwork. An index, glossary, and fine bibliography round out this important book.
