What a wonderful story! I didn't want the story to end. And I cannot believe I had this wonderful book on my TBR since February of 2009 and wouldn't go ahead and read it. I just mailed my copy this morning to another lucky PBS member who will, hopefully, find the story to be as wonderful as I did.

This historical fiction book, based on the author's great grandmother, describes the joys and hardships of life in the Arizona Territories. Well written, it is a book that is hard to put down.

I picked up this book believing it was a real diary. However, while based on a real person, it is mostly fiction, although it incorporates many actual events.
Early in the book there was a rape and I felt this wasn't necessary to the story and almost stopped reading it. But I continued and was hooked.
The author did an excellent job convincing me the people in the story were real.
However, if you would like to read the diary of a real woman who lived in this period in the southwest, then I suggest the most excellent book, "No Life For a Lady" by Agnes Morley Cleaveland.

Exciting, romantic, thrilling and edearing. Shared this with many personal friends and had the joy of reading to my legally blind 94 year old mother. I loved it more during my oral reads. Had to pick up the next one by Nancy Turner "Sarah's Quilt". This book was wonderful in every way.
