I LOVE this book. So many authentic, cheap, easy, and planet-friendly recipes from all over the world, with stories about the people who make them and eat them. Some of them are very very basic, but intriguing and delicious and nutritious -- such as vegetables with peanut sauces, spiced squash with greens, stewed potato dishes, lentil curries -- I'm very drawn to these things. They're so simple, and yet so unfamiliar that they seem exotic, even though I have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area (gourmet international galore) all my life. I have a vegetarian daughter, a football-playing son, a lactose-intolerant, diabetic husband -- and this book is just full of things we can all eat and enjoy together. It never leaves my kitchen counter.
