The World of Kong: A Natural History of Skull Island by the Weta Workshop
I dragged this out after reading Fragment the other day. Mainly because, in so many ways, Fragment felt like a higher tech version where the author tried to make the ecology work.
Anyway, I love this book. Its got lots of dinosaurs, giant centipedes, giant dinosaur eating spiders and on and on. And they're illustrated! Beautifully illustrated. Its a lot of fun.
As to its flaws, well, the predators get too much print. One review pointed out that something the size of Skull Island couldn't support the species the book and movie have. Big deal. Also, the folks at Weta seem to have missed the cube square law and how that will affect insects, specifically the giant centipedes and spiders - they'd need an atmosphere that is very rich in oxygen to make them work.
Still, I love the book. The twelve year old in me loves it and has the ear of the adult me.
Read it and enjoy the eye candy created by some very bright, skilled and creative people.
