At first I thought that for the reader to get the most out of this book, they should be a fanatic knitter. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that they really only needed to be fanatic about SOMETHING, or know someone who sometimes carries their 'hobbies' a bit too far. (I hesitate to classify knitting as a hobby because the true knitters among us know that in no way is it a hobby, it's more of a life's calling.)
Stephanie Pearl-McPhee's book is a series of quirky, funny essays about knitting, in which she highlights the little truisms in life that we all face. It made me laugh out loud several times, and cringe a little when I saw too much of my compulsive self in the vingettes. Once in awhile it brought me to tears with a poignant story. It's about family, and balance and making something of beauty from things few other people value. Did I already mention that it made me laugh? It was a fun read.

The Yarn Harlot returns with another collection of short essays, tales of knitterly terror, and domestic hysteria all revolving around her love of knitting. Probably less accessible to the non-knitter than her earlier work, but just as much fun for the knitter as that one was.

I waiting a long time for my # to come up and it was worth the wait! A hilarious and candid look at us obsessive knitters and yarn hoarders, Stephanie puts in writing what we are all thinking - how do we hide all this yarn from our significant others, how to justify another yarn purchase and what we all think of pattern designers!!!!! I laughed out loud several times and I know you will too! 2 THUMBS UP!!!

If you're a knitter (or crocheter, weaver, etc) you'll really relate to the essays in this book. Whether she's talking about a closet crammed with your yarn stash, or the project that has sat unfinished for three years, chances are you'll smile and say "exactly!" McPhee isn't the greatest writer and she strains a bit with some of her attempts at humor, but the overall effort it worthwhile.

Knitters will love this book. The author hits on every one of any knitter's foibles, aggravations, failures and delights - and, she is very, very funny.

Love this book can relate to the stories she tells. Makes me want to knit and read at the same time.

I could identify with a few of Stephanie's stories, but I didn't find her to be as funny as others claimed her to be.

A real fun book to read. I'm omly an occasional knitter & I have a stash of yarn.

A humorous view from a knitter's mind. Hilarious. The scary part is that you will recognize parts of yourself in this book!

A very fun book to read. A collection of essays or blog posts. Most made me laugh. A couple made me cry.
I am a new knitter and learning to appreciate some of the things she talks about. Can't wait to read more.

Although I am not a "Knitter" yet, I have found her humor very relatable and amusing! I think yarn-aholics and crocheters alike would appreciate her wit.
very cute book!
