I was pleasantly surprised by the qualify of this book! Historical accuracy is the first thing one notices. And one can't help but be caught up in this impressive novel of a Confederate soldier's return home and the problems that must be dealt with in post-Civil War South. Read THE BLACK FLOWER first! You won't regret this 2 book series.

This book was very well written. Wonderfully beautiful phrasing and a very interesting Civil War story that deals with the immediate aftermath of the war. The characters are unique yet believable. A great read.

If you are interested in learning more about the Civil War while enjoying a good novel, you should read this book. Gawain joins the war after finding out his girl friends father will not alow him to marry her unless he contributes to the war cause, thus he joins. We find him on his way home where he finds his love has waited for him but there are scores to settle before they marry. This is a good account of the south after the surrender and before the reconstruction. I enjoyed this book very much.
