One of the best books I have read in a long time...I couldn't put it down (stayed up ALL night reading for two days). Wildgen does such an amazing job of brining the characters and situations to life, breathtaking!

An easy to read but sad book about someone with ALS. Tells the story of a caregiver learning how to care for someone with this disease but learns so much about herself and what others are willing to sacrifice in tragedy.

I really enjoyed reading this book, couldn't put it down. Bec is a college student who has lost her way, having an affair with Liam, a married professor, unsatisfied with her major, and unhappy with her job as a waitress. She finds herself after answering an ad to be a caregiver for a woman named Kate who has ALS, with whom she becomes very close. Kate ends up having a major influence on Bec, who finally breaks it off with Liam, quits school, and persues a career as a chef after learning how to cook while caring for Kate. The ending is thought-provoking, albeit sad. This is a very touching coming-of-age type of story that will make you wonder, "What would I have done?" I highly recommend this book, beautifully written!

When Bec takes a job as a caregiver for a woman with ALS, she never guesses that she will be transformed. Not only does she learn to be a caregiver, but she learns about her strength and true heart when faced with the most impossible of situations. You'll feel right at home with Becky and Kate and dread the inevitable ending as much as they do.

I like the way this author writes...I felt I knew all of the characters very well...This was her first novel and it was very enjoyable.

This excellent novel is very reminiscent of The Dive From Clausen's Pier by Ann Packer. If you liked that one, you'll love You're Not You by Michelle Wildgen.

This wasn't a book I normally would have thought I'd enjoy. However, I ended up reading it within just a few days because I couldn't seem to want to put it down. It has a sort of depressing tone to the story line, but it is there for a reason.
I found myself wondering what I would have done in the situation that the main character was in. I must say I'm still not sure, although I think I know the choice I'd have made. This wasn't the best book I've ever read by any means, but it was a good one.

Caregiving. Giving care. What you are really doing is giving pieces of your soul in an effort to make someone else's life better. At the least, tolerable. You are not you after awhile, you become something else. The difficult, sad part is only YOU can decide if it is worth it.

I picked up this book as a recommendation from one of the discussion forums on this site. I'm glad I got it from the library and did not spend money or a credit on it. It was just OK for me. I admired the young girl, Bec, who was a caregiver for a 30-something women with ALS. She stepped into the caregiver role gracefully and with little inhibitions. However, I was disturbed by the lack of depth the book gave to the marriage of Kate & Evan and the lack of emotion that accompanied her kicking him out when she needed him so much - I guess it was her pride. And, although, Bec was obviously affected by the course of events that take place, she showed very little emotion as well.
I don't know - this one is only 3 stars for me. I had to keep forcing myself to pick it up and keep going -- it was not a fast read for me. I couldn't wait to get through it so I could move on to others in my TBR pile.
