This book was very easy to read because of the friendly conversational tone. It is definitely meant to be a brief overview for homeschooling, nothing too in depth. Just meant to be an introduction and it did a good job of introducing the newbie homeschooler to many different ways to homeschool, though it definitely had a Christian point of view, so if that turns you off you may want to skip this one. But it was still, in my opinion, worth my time to read it.

This is a really nice book by Lisa Whelchel that contains many testimonies about families who've decided to home educate their children. Those families come from all different walks of life, have different reasons for choosing homeschool, and they discuss various methods of home education that works best for their families. It's a great book for those who are simply thinking about homeschooling, or for those who have homeschooled "forever" and would enjoy the encouragement, friendly conversation, and a few laughs!

I liked the way Ms. Whelchel pointed out that all homeschooling families are not all alike and how you don't have to fit the mold. It's important for parents to know that they can homeschool in a variety of situations and circumstances. I had been homeschooling for several years before she wrote the book and ours was one of the families she interviewed via email when she was researching it. We were one of the "On the Job Training Families"; we basically "gym-schooled" for the 7 years we owned our gym.

Just as the title says it is the story of 15 families and how and why they are homeschooling. If you are thinking about homeschooling but not sure you are up to it, or just want more information on different styles, this is a must-read. And this one is really quick reading and enjoyable and informative, without getting bogged down in a lot of "jargon".

I thought this book was great! A nice look into how families in different situations make homeschooling work for them. I was encouraged and educated, and would recommend this book for anyone in the very beginning stages of considering homeschooling for their child.

This is the first book I read when I was considering homeschooling. It was fabulous. It really shows how any person who is interested in homeschooling, no matter their situation, can really make it work.....and have fun doing it.

This book was the impetus for our family's homeschool journey. It is a wonderful resource if you aren't sure how to go about it, or what's expected, or how you would even begin. We are on our 5th year of homeschooling and wouldn't trade it for the world. Read this book if you have ever even thought about homeschooling in passing.

A smooth, fast, and informative read! Lisa takes you into fifteen different homes that homeschool different ways for different reasons. It gives you a wonderful glimpse of each style of homeschooling while being entertaining, informative, and a fun read. I really enjoyed her writing style and plan on reading other books by her!

Wonderful book.
I loved this book! I was really struggling with the thought that even though I wanted to homeschool, there was no way I could do it. This book showed me ways that I could homeschool, even with my scatterbrained personality. We are now going on our 3rd year of homeschooling... and things are going great. Glad I read the book.
A great read! It helps explain different ways to go about home-schooling.

This book takes a very real and balanced approach to homeschooling. It is what convinced both my husband and myself that we may be able to give this a try. I would recommend it to anyone that is contemplating homeschooling.

The overall reference to teaching christian values overrode the usefulness of the book for me. If that is a priority in teaching than this book may be helpful.

When I read this a knew homeschooling was for me. I love it. It's humorous and encouraging. The author describes many different ways families homeschool so you can see that no matter your personality or family configuration homeschooling is possible.

Very informative and gave me some ideas for homeschooling my own child. Very nice range of examples to tell us about. It also explains a bit further concepts that were really strange to me. Such as "unschooling". I may not agree with everything in the book but just reading about the different ways of doing things have broadened my perspective.

This is a great book. Even though I am already homeschooling I felt validated with the range of homeschooling types. Would make a good read for those having problems with inlaws or other family members that are not sure about the homeschooling thing.
