Youth is the second in a series of a fictional young author who has a striking resemblence to J.M. Coetzee. In this second installment, the young man leaves South Africa and moves to the UK in order to become an artist with words. Instead, he finds himself in a droll job with IBM, and very lonely, despite a series of relationships with women.

As fiction Youth is not particularly engaging, but it will appeal to those with an interest in Coetzee and how his life influences his work.
