While I LOVE the creativity that oozes from this fun little pattern book, I have to say I am a little dismayed at the patterns themselves. First of all, they are oversimplified. I am the type of person that really needs picture diagrams, especially when it comes to piecing & joining things together--this book has none of that. It merely tells you how in convoluted directions that make you go "huh?" So you are left trying to figure it out by trial and error--this is especially true for more of the complex items like the dip, the cheese, and some of the sushi that require multiple pieces for the finished product. Secondly, the actual crochet methods seem harder than they need to be. For instance, this annoying "magic ring" they want you to use is way harder than just joining a chain and the results are exactly the same. I also found the terminology sequence to be confusing while working in the round. Luckily I have been crocheting for a while so I can adjust and change the patterns to better suit my preferences but to the novice or unconfident person, this book would be challenging.
Despite its shortcomings, this book has some beautiful photos of the finished products that are inspiring and just plain fun. So 'Gurumi at your own risk and see if you can't come up with your own versions of the wayward patterns.
