I don't suppose I have to go too deep into the lack of editing right? This is on par with most self-published books (or the average urban fiction book....) and if it's something hard for you to get past you'll have an extra hard time here. It seems to me that beyond a spell check it had - literally - no editing. The spell check obviously caught some words, like when a sentence should 'native' in it and instead has 'naive'. (Possibly the other way around.) This happens quite a few times during the course of the story. Proper editing would go a long way.
My only complaint - and I have to admit that it's a big one - is that it's way too fast. There are many scenes which should have been drawn out. When Alex reveals his secret, more than a couple parts between Sarah and Alex, when Joelle and Harvey meet and have that moment at the end, and so, so many more. These parts should have been drawn out to invoke feeling in the reader and instead it felt like I was reading an itinerary.
That being said, the story is a good one. It brings to mind Rhiannon Frater's The First Days trilogy. With some work it could be on par with that trilogy IMO.
I'd say that this one would be a decent starting point with anyone wanting to read zombie-lit and it's also a nice story for those who are familiar with the genre.
I'm most definitely read another book by either or both of the authors although I'd sincerely hope the next one will be edited right - which I have a feeling it will be. ;-)
