Robin M. (robinm): Re: Everything is Illuminated--This book IS confusing, but if you stick with the 2 story lines, they eventually merge (and everything is illuminated, get it?) I listened to this book on audio tape and talk about CONFUSING...when they switch the story, I thought maybe, I don't know, maybe someone taped OVER the original tape?? Where the hell did THIS come from? But, as it is with audiotapes, you wind up sticking through because it takes no effort to listen and I am glad I did. There is almost nothing funnier than those letters he wrote in the beginning, unless you count the "seeing eye bitch" stuff.

Chris S. (smallbutfeisty): I am finally reading Harry Potter

I like to be behind the times.

Running with Scissors--ok, but not the greatest thing ever. Ah well.

Chris S. (smallbutfeisty): Been awhile since I've updated

The Basic Eight was pretty good. A weird story, but an engaging one.

I'm now reading (and almost finished with) Running with Scissors. Also a really weird (but true[?]) story.

Chris S. (smallbutfeisty): Basic Eight

I gave up on Songbook. I found it sort of boring, since I'm not familiar with most of the songs Hornby describes. It just wasn't my thing.

I'm moving on to Daniel Handler's (he's the infamous Lemony Snicket) The Basic Eight.

Chris S. (smallbutfeisty): Songbook...

I enjoyed We Thought You Would be Prettier, although it's not destined for my keeper shelf like The Idiot Girls' Action-Adventure Club was. Laurie Notaro is fabulous and witty; her tales are like that of any woman--drinking too much and saying dumb things, losing the sensitivity filter and saying dumb things, thinking 95% of the world is an idiot... Many of Laurie's stories are my stories too!

Realizing I have faltered in reading an equal number of books written by men and women, I have decided to read Songbook by Nick Hornby next.

Chris S. (smallbutfeisty): I love Laurie Notaro

I loved Idiot Girls... so much that I had to begin the other of her books on my shelf, We Thought You'd be Prettier. Now I'm off to add her others to my wishlist.

WOOHOO!!

Chris S. (smallbutfeisty): Finished the Photographand wasn't nuts about it. It was ok, the character sketches were fabulous, but the story was just ok. I have moved onto a top secret book that I'm reading for the Chick Lit swap. :)

Chris S. (smallbutfeisty): Still working on The Photograph...

But I had a chick lit book, A Little Change of Face, in my car and started that while I was out and about. It was pretty good.

Back to The Photograph for me!

Chris S. (smallbutfeisty): Night

I finished Like the Red Panda this morning. It was pretty good, and very fast, but not great.

I'm now reading Night. I got it at a library sale BEFORE Oprah listed it, so woohoo!

Chris S. (smallbutfeisty): Update

I couldn't be bothered with Diary of a...., so instead read (and enjoyed!!) Girls' Night In by various chick lit authors.

I'm back into the heavy stuff, and reading A Million Little Pieces by James Frey.

Chris S. (smallbutfeisty): Balzac is finished

Not nuts about it, although it did give me an appreciation for life under Communism.

After all these heavy books, I think I'll head to something lighter. Maybe Diary of a Manhattan Call girl??

Chris S. (smallbutfeisty): Unbearable Lightness.

I had to put this book down. I was bored, confused, and tired of it, so I've moved on. No more wasting my time on books that don't interest me.

So now I'm trying again on Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress. At the current point, I might be putting this one down too, despite the rave reviews I have heard of it.

Chris S. (smallbutfeisty): The shadow of the wind

I tried again with this book, but had to put it down. I just can't get into it, and I'm avoiding it. I'm going to put it off for now, and maybe pick it up again this summer.

I'm now reading The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera. So far, so good, and I'm looking forward to some very light reading next!! :)
