This is not the Steve Martin movie version. This is the classic book of the Gilbreth family; mom, dad and their twelve children! Dad is an efficiency expert/engineer and often applies work principles at home with hilarious results. The book also has some very poignant moments as we watch the children grow up and the family deal with trials.

An auto-biography of a man learning to come to terms with his childhood of abuse. The book if very well written and while it is not morbid or sensational, it is sad and fairly detailed. Excellent read, as are the sequels.

The companion novel to The Blue Sword, The Hero and the Crown was/is one of my favorite fantasy novels as a teenager because it featured a girl as the protaganist and her "coming-of-age"-type saga as she teaches herself the skills she needs to become the heroine of her land. All of Robin McKinley books are awesome, but this one holds a special place in my heart.

The second book of four, this historical romance sees Montgomery brother Stephen forced to marry a Scottish clan chief, the beautiful Bronwyn MacCarran. Both are strong-willed and independent and they make a remarkable couple through many conflicts including nations, clans, families and each other!

This novel features the Countess Karitska, whom we met in The Clairvoyant Countess. She is as unique and busy as ever; helping solve crimes, match-making romances and helping her friends - both those old and new with their lives. Kaleidoscope is as funny and well-written as the first and a wonderful book to read.

A mystery set at a prestigious New England college, The Northbury Papers sees Professor Karen Pelletier (also of the book Quieter than Sleep)involved in a murder investigation. I am not normally a huge fan of the mystery genre, this book made me rethink that stand. The use of the world of academe with its cutthroat rules and plots involving staff, students, tenure, and publishing was unique and intriguing. I couldn't put this book down and had to read Joanne Dobson's other book also.

The last of the series of four historical romance novels with the Montgomery brothers; the Velvet Angel begins with the kidnapping of Elizabeth Chatworth. She is delivered to Miles Montgomery, the youngest brother of the family that the Chatworths have been warring with for years. The Velvet Angel ends the fued between the two families with the romance of Miles and Elizabeth. The scene at the end, with all the brothers and their respective wives is my favorite of all four books.
