ENJOYABLE fast read. Poignant story that takes place on the island of Nantucket one summer with wonderfully developed characters.

Loved this - a real page-turner! I ordered it for my son and read it myself and thorougly enjoyed it. Lots of great description of Tibet and thus not only exciting but educational as well. Recomment highly to anyone who loves a great adventure story, emotional parent/child relationship development and page turner in one.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS BOOK AND JUST REREAD IT NOW THAT MY SON IS ALMOST 14 AND CHANGED DRASTICALLY THIS PAST YEAR -FROM CHATTERBOX TO SILENT MAN ;). THIS BOOK IS REALLY GOT ME THINKING - AND DOING (EG. PLAY MUSIC YOU LISTENED TO AT CHILD'S AGE AND SEE WHAT THOUGHTS COME TO YOU ABOUT HOW YOU FELT THEN, ETC.) AND TAKES YOU BACK WHERE YOU CAN EMPATHIZE AND REMEMBER WHAT YOUR CHILD MAY BE GOING THROUGH. IT IS EXTREMELY HELPFUL AND SINCE I WON'T GIVE UP MY COPY TO MY EX-HUSBAND - I'M ORDERING IT FOR HIM FROM THIS SITE!
HARD TO FIND GOOD BOOKS FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL YEARS - THIS AND BELOW ARE SPOT-0N!
ANOTHER GOOD ONE - GET OUT OF MY LIFE, BUT FIRST CAN YOU TAKE ME & CHERYL TO THE MALL? WILL SEARCH IT OUT & REVIEW.

Loved this book though very different if you keep reading after the very beginning. After the plot 'setup' the real story begins. And what a gem it is. It doesn't matter what religion you are to enjoy this story and whether or not you agree or disagree with Mr. Young's concepts- there are enough universal truths & philosophy for all- it simply makes you ponder your own experience and reactions to pain as well as faith (or not). Reflective & spiritual I found it wonderfully entertaining & redeeming as a father's tragedy, deep despair & sadness enlightens him along with faith, whatever that form takes. This book is a keeper on my shelf, alas, I won't be posting it. I have bought several (new) copies for my friends and they loved it as much as I did, if not more. I look forward to rereading it (if I ever get around to it!)
