Love this book. This is the book that got me hooked on Margaret Maron. I adore her storytelling and wit and the crazy family of the main character. Deborah, the main character, is a judge with strength and independence that gives new respect to the often inaccurate idea of southerners.

This is an excellent book for those who love mysteries and southern stories. Sharyn McCrumb includes the "mountain" culture in this true-to-life story about southerners that are cultured and intellegent. I resent anything that attempts to make southerners look stupid, and McCrumb never does that!

I really enjoyed this book as I have all of Margeret Maron's books that I have read --- about 6 or 7. She is a great southern writer that has suspense and love and humor in all of her books. She includes the southern American culture in a humorous, sentimental, and honest way. I don't know why Margaret Maron has not received the acclaim that other writers of her genre have. I think she is an excellent storyteller!

This is one the best Christian books I have ever read. It really helps you understand how to respond when bad or difficult things happen. At a time when I was really struggling emotionally, it comforted me and encouraged me. It doesn't give you the silly,
pat answers so many people do. It actually discusses those and why they do not reflect God's nature. It is well-written and full of depth and wisdom. I have recommended it to a lot of people and given it as gifts. They thanked me, saying it helped them, also.
