"The Black Flower" is NOT for those who are looking for a Civil War read similar to "Killer Angels". This book delves more into the thoughts and emotions of soldiers before, during and after the battle of Franklin Tennessee. The characters are very well developed, the writing superb such that the reader can not help but get emotionally attached.

When I perused the reviews of "The Corrections", it is hard to believe that I have read the same text!! I believe that after reading you will either LOVE or HATE this book... nothing in between. I could not put this book down. Jonathan Franzen explores, in a hilarious way, the impact of ones upbringing in a dysfunctional family. The members of the Lambert family are certainly damaged and sad, however, the stories message is ultimately one of understanding and forgiveness. I strongly suggest that you read the book and form your own opinion.

This is a fantastic story about a beautiful young woman who marries a general, 22 years her senior, after only a 3 day courtship. They live on the frontier, (surrounded by Indians), just east of the Mississippi.
One can not help but care about the characters and cringe at the injustices and poor treatment of the Indians. While entranced by the story, you will learn about life on the frontier, the Black Hawk war and General Atkinson.
This is a great book that you will enjoy from the start.

For certain, English Bulldogs are the ONLY breed for me. That said, if ever there was an animal where owning and reading the owners guide is absolutely required, this is it!!! An EB has the attitude and disposition of a Mastiff, encapsulated in a 55lb dog. They are wonderful, but require a lot of care. Many of the health problems that are prevalent in this breed can be avoided with proper care and know how. This book will help you to know what to do and when to do it.

This book is best described as light reading for those who enjoy Historical Fiction. This is a detective story written with the Roman Empire as the background. I read it while at the beach and I highly recommend it to others.
