The Caruthers Sisters do more than walk the Red Carpet - in their "spare" time, they save the universe as Guardian Keys. Each sister was born with talents that are specific to protecting a particular universe. All possessing the ablity to teleport to anywhere in the universe with a quick touching together of their wrists. This book is about the oldest of the Caruthers sisters - Gillian. A lawyer and CEO by day, she is tasked with protecting the King of the demon universe, Maunra. She quickly learns the new King - Arath, is not the typical demon; he is much more powerful than any demon she has come up against or protected. Through the book we discover secret family deals. The family deals with protecting the universe from the BIG EVIL that wants to possess all worlds. Gillian learns that not all demons are demonic...
Great read - very fast. First of a series, with the second being Dragons Prefer Blondes. Hope more are forthcoming.

Another great turn for Victoria Laurie's Ghost Hunter crew! This installment of the series shows MJ's struggle with her relationship with Dr. Steven Sable and her maybe feelings for the new-to-the-group psychic medium Heath Whitefeather. The crew goes to Scotland to film a segment for their new cable show. The various characters they meet along the way provide for great fear and comedy.

Though I knew this was going to be a tough book, I was prepared. As a frequent listener of audiobooks, I expect the narrator to tell the story, as written, in a play-like fashion. The reading of this book was just that, a reading. Maybe it was because the author is the one reading the book. It almost put me to sleep several times -- and since I am listening to this on my drive to and from work! I couldn't finish it. I gave up after starting the 5th disk.

This is a story of a woman who had always defined herself as a wife and mother. When her daughter went off to college, she started to look at her life and ask herself if she was truly happy. She didn't come face to face with it until her mother, whom she hadn't seen in several years, had an accident. She was asked to come back to the coastal South Carolina home of her youth to help her mother, and forced to face the demons that haunted her since her father's death some 30 years before.
While taking care of her mother, she develops a relationship with a monk in the local monastery. She is forced to come to terms with her past, her present, and how she wants to spend her future.
Filled with an abundance of rich characters, this is a well-written story that pulls you in and makes you care.

Marla's friend Gwen Matson is somewhat of an enigme. Her style can be best compared to that of Jackie-O's. Never wearing ANYTHING not made during 1952 - 1963, Gwen has stood outside of the crowd since Marla and Gwen met as sophomores in high school. Marla is seeking Gwen's advice for her trip to Paris with her fiance. Marla doesn't know it, but she is about to affect Gwen's life in a most dramatic way. While on her way to get her friend's fashion advice (as Marla's is limited to a t-shirt she's had since high school and a faded old pair of jeans), Marla stops at a convenience store and happens upon a journal. She finds out the store does not sell the journal and sees it as a sign that she should give it to her friend Gwen. Gwen is about to go on a road trip with her boyfriend of 3 months (this is typically the time Gwen finds something wrong with the relationship and gives the guy the heave-ho). Joing Gwen and her boyfriend, Coop, is Coop's best friend, Dannika. Marla suggests that in order to keep Gwen from running off Coop due to her intense jealousy, that she write in the journal she gave her. So, Gwen writes... and writes... and writes.
Suffice it to say, three journals full of Gwen's fantastical vacation - full of ups, downs, and in-betweens, keeps the book flowing. The book is more about Gwen's life, how her parents' lives have affected her ability to maintain relationships with men, and how Gwen learns to trust and find out "we are not our parents".
An excellent read.
