Different people impact your life in various ways. Kris Radish took relationships that impacted the life of Annie Freeman and forced them into a traveling funeral journey without their friend. These friends "knew" about each other from conversations with Annie, but found true friendship with each other during their traveling journey.

1860 in the Northern United States is the setting of this story. Anna Ivey lives on the East coast and lands on a ship taking women to the West coast with the promise of a husband. Anna doesn't want a husband, but encounters the adventure with the mindset of becoming a cook to release herself from a situation of discomfort in her present East coast situation! When she reaches her destination, she is pleasantly surprised by the lumberjack who "needs" a wife to save his land and business. He is honest, generous with his money, thoughtful, romantic, and yet Miss Ivey holds her ground to staying as a cook, even though her heart strings are tugged in the direction of loving this man! She is in constant battles with her past and how people she loves end up dying. How can she become involved with a man and have him die?
I couldn't put it down and the story lifts your heart to this goodness of people.

In Book Two of the Wortham Family Series, Leisha Kelly shares the triumphs and the sorrows of the Wortham and Hammond families. When times become dismal and the sun doesn't want to shine through, the Wortham and Hammond families pull together and with their belief in God, find joy in their everyday living.
Kept me reading and wanting to read on to find out what happens next. So similar to Karen Kingsbury's book series (First Born, Redemption, and Sunrise), kept you reading to find out more!
I am hoping Book Three of this series (Emma's Gift)to bring more information about the families and how they conquer life despite the Depression and lack of work for both families.

Julia and Samuel Wortham are down on their luck during the Depression Era. Samuel has lost his job, their home has been taken back by the bank, and they have no money nor mode of transportation, but their feet. They begin their journey from Pennsylvania to Illinois with their two children in hopes of finding a job, a new home, and happiness.
As they journey across the land, they find prejudice and kindness, but none as precious as the kindness of dear, sweet Emma, who has taken many families under her wing and given more of herself than one could ever imagine.
Wholesome story and I was relieved to find that after book 1 there are two more books to continue the story of the Wortham and Hammond families!
Reminds me of the Karen Kingsbury Firstborn and Redemption series books. Good book.

This is book # 3 of the Wortham Family and the most riveting of the three books. The Wortham family is settling into life with all the changes that have occurred of the past year. Everything changes when Samuel Wortham's brother drops a little gift on their lives and with the presence of this gift and Samuel's brother, havoc begins to arise within the Wortham and Hammond families.
Good read.
