From the back cover: "A hilarious upstairs-downstairs story set in the absurd world of New York City's most elite private schools. I couldn't put it down." Karen Quinn, author of The Ivy Chronicles
This book was written by an instructor at a private school who I believe lost his job as a result.
There are 24 customer reviews on amazon.com, mostly with four or five stars. The New York Times review (June 13, 2006) was critical seeing it as cliched and reductive.

Atlas Shrugged is a best-selling novel by Ayn Rand, first published in
> 1957. The book describes a heroic struggle between the "individuals
> of the mind" who go on strike against the "moochers" and "looters" of
> the world. The heroine, Dagny Taggart, is a no-nonsense railroad
> manager who does not take fools lightly. She is pursued by three
> brilliant and charming men and finally joins them in withdrawing her
> services from a world that does not appreciate or reward people of
> genius and initiative. As a result of the successful strike the
> economy collapses and they begin to rebuild a world based on sound
> philosophical principles.
>
> The original of this book is over 1,000 pages in length. This
> recorded abridgement, on eight cassettes, captures the drama and
> excitement that made Rand's text a best seller in an entertaining
> format. The reading is excellent, with different voices for the main
> characters. Rand's philosophical ideas are there, but are not
> obtrusive.

This book is FANTASTIC! Very different from usual thrillers and keeps you on edge until the end. Thailand background with protagonist as Buddhist policeman with lots of info on Thailand prostitution and jade trade make it very UNIQUE.

This was a great light-hearted but well-written romance with lots of missed connections and very likable characters. This is the kind of book i love for car listening. It keeps me in a good mood and isn't so convoluted that you can't keep track of the plot in the spoken format.

2nd book in the Georgina Powers series. Rock legend Johnny Waits makes the ultimate career movehe dies at the height of his success on a heroin high in the arms of record producer Christian Dexter. Carla Blue, a music star on the rise, drowns, with morphine in her veins, in the swimming pool of Dexters luxurious Spanish villa. Carlas closest friend, Georgina Powers, is convinced something is terribly wrongespecially when she finds tapes of unreleased albums by both Carla and Johnny for sale at a market stall. The record company doesnt like it either, because Johnny and Carla are still in business. And, if the sales are anything to go by, theyre better off dead.

The Alan Gregory series is one of my favorites for listening on my commute. His personal life with wife, Asst DA Lauren, their child and dogs really draws you to relate to his character. This is one of the better episodes with a beautiful patient, Gibbs Story, whose tales of her husband and potential serial killer get both Alan and his best Friend, police detective, Sam Purdy, totally drawn in. Lots of suspense and "can't stop listening" parts.

From the China Bayles series. China is a past high-powered attorney who now owns her own herb shop. This is the best book of the series so far as cina goes back to her Mississpi homeland.

Michael Connelly (author of the Harry Bosch series) is a fantastic plotter and writer. Although this one isn't up to his best (Harry Bosch series or Lincoln Lawyer) it makes for a great audio "listen". A young tech entrepreneur lets his curiosity get the better of him as he tracks down a prostitute whose old phone number he has inherited.Lots of tech background and info about Internet porn sites. But this one keeps you on edge throughout waiting to see how (or if ) the young protagonist will get out of the mess he has stumbled into.
