Well written account of a true story: a sailboat sinks in a storm and then the five occupants have to figure out how to survive in a rubber lifeboat.

Really enjoyed this book told from the viewpoint of a woman making a life from scratch in the Montana wilderness. Great details about ranch life in those days, good and bad. What sets this book apart from other memoirs from this time is the honesty of Nannie Alderson's true feelings about the darker side of frontier living and the challenges she faced. She apparently suffered from anxiety and is very candid about experiencing the same fears, depression, jealousy and resentments that we all do today. Transitioning from a carefree bride to an overworked mother of four is something many of us can relate to.

Very nice, fun read. I enjoyed the local Iowa history intertwined with the antics of the cat Dewey and the personal struggles of the author.

I really enjoyed this book for a couple of reasons. One, it did not follow a predictable Lifetime Movie story line of troubled characters and strained relationships, contrived plot lines that push the story in an unrealistic direction and then the corny relationship breakthroughs with a happy ending. Two, the main characters annoyed the heck out of me at times but I still cared enough about them to want to see them succeed (just like most of my relatives LOL). Not a perfect story but I was intrigued, engaged and entertained all the way through.

Lisa Robinson is a rock journalist who has toured and interviewed with groups from the Rolling Stones, Beatles and Led Zeppelin to Michael Jackson, U2 and Lady Gaga. A real treat for music enthusiasts and anyone with nostalgia about the earlier decades of music. Often funny, it is a good read with many personal details that I have not heard anywhere else.
