The 4-Hour Body: Beat Genetics, Save Time, and Redesign Your Body with Science
Review Date: 3/6/2018

Don't believe the hype. This book surely is a joke. Full of exaggeration, sarcasm, and outright lies, this tome has got to have been a âget rich quickâ scheme for the author and publisher. I threw the copy that was sent to me right into the paper recycling bin.

Not as true to Atlanta as Anne Rivers Siddons, but mildly entertaining nevertheless.

No carbs for two weeks, then start adding things back in slowly.

This book is well researched, easy to read, and makes good sense to me. I have a good, standard understanding of nutrition and how the human body works as a machine. Calories as fuel, if not used then they are stored. This book reiterates that principle and shows you how the KIND of calories matters, especially when trying to trim/slim and make your machine work more efficiently.

I have been adhering to the SBD principles for about 6 weeks now and have lost approx 18-20lbs. The plan and course of action works. I keep it by my bed for "reminder" reading from time to time.

Enjoyed the first 50 pages or so; but then it gets very wordy and the story moves quite s l o w l y. After about midway, I gave up - disinterested in the characters anymore. I'm glad I gave this famous novel a try, but it just couldn't maintain my interest after the first section of the story was complete.

Thin Tastes Better : Control Your Food Triggers and Lose Weight Without Feeling Deprived
Review Date: 10/10/2011
Helpful Score: 1

The main point of this book teaches the reader how to adjust their thinking about food. It assists with the way we (in the first world of over-abundance and "on-demand" eating) sometimes psychologically give food control over our bodies instead of the other way around. Dr. Gullo (the author) has treated a career-ful of cardio (and, at times, diabetic/endocrine) patients with weight-related health issues. He has learned through them (and self discovery) about common triggers, habits, urges and other thought-induced food issues. His book is well written, very easy to read & relate to, and is quite helpful in suggestions/proven methods to changing your inner "script."

One caveat - Dr. Gullo is quite anti-carbs. He pretty much preaches NO carbs EVER throughout the book. This might be unrealistic for some (most?) people and probably very difficult for the average user (e.g.: me.) I have been following this edict for approx 6 weeks now and have "cheated" several times. However, on a day-to-day basis, it is not that outrageous (once you get over the initial 10 -14 day period.)

I highly recommend "Thin Tastes Better" to anyone who truly wants to gain control over food's temptation and who is ready to actually put Dr. Gullo's proven techniques into action.

This is a great companion book to The South Beach Diet. They overlap on many ideas and compliment each other well.

Think Thin, Be Thin : 101 Psychological Ways to Lose Weight

Meh. This is a bit cumbersome to read (to me) and the ideas, tips do not retain as well as other similar books I've read. I prefer "Thin Tastes Better" by Stephen Gullo, MD.

Quiet, thoughtful, and easy-to-read. Seethaler's story of one man's small, simple life in a tiny, mountain town leads the reader through the decades of the 20th century, by way of the progress of a young man through to old age. The protagonist is no hero. He is no villain, nor anyone extraordinary. He is a common, everyman.
