I looked forward to reading this after reading The Ivory Coast, but found it to be very disappointing. Some "sense" of realism would have been beneficial.

I ordered this book, both books actually, with no expectations that I would particularly enjoy them. To my surprise, and pleasure, I enjoyed the stories a great deal. A completely different, and plausible, view of our Revolutionary War. The patriots great clamor for "freedom" from a tyrannical monarchy, takes on a different feel when viewed from the eyes of a slave. The fact that our 'hero' doesn't know he is a slave....for a time, only adds to the the uniqueness of this story.

Surprising number of chuckles. Sort of Elmore Leonard Lite, but a fun read I thought.

I did not care for this book. The style and presentation was annoying. The character unlikable. I did not finish it.

This was an unusual and very interesting book. A bit quirky for many I think, but the story of this little known WWII action made me want to find out more. Unfortunately, it was so apparently little known that I haven't been able to find any further writings on it.

Enjoyable read. Plus, a little history boost.

I discovered this author while on a series of cruises. At trips end I had read 5 of his books. Since then I have read everyone that I could locate. While Captain Alatriste will will always be my favorite, I have enjoyed all his books.

I would rate this book right at the top of my list of worst book I have ever read. Great concept. Extremely poor execution. The second of his books I have read. The other wasn't as bad as this but it should have been enough warning not to waste my time further.

This is the first, "Alternate History", book I have read as they have not appealed to me. But the premise of the Spanish Armada successful invading Britain, with England relying on Shakespeare to save the day, piqued my interest. Some excellent characterization, plotting and wit. Well worth reading.
