This was the first book in the series that I read and I enjoyed it so much I tracked down all the others. The series is refreshing and realistic in many ways. I enjoyed the history and the intertwining stories between the books.

This is the best of the books I have recently read about Afghanistan. Probably because the writer actually lived there for the first part of her young life. It really brings home all the losses the people of that country have endured starting back with the Soviet invasion.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was fascinating to realize how connected the people of the Middle East are and how different they are compared to my pre-conceived ideas. I have also recently seen several articles confirming the stories in the book. It makes me more hopeful about our future.

I loved it! I often get books about places I hope to visit someday. Since the author was in a very small town and was only renting, it seemed like something I could possibly do someday. As much as fact that it centered around the garden gave it a different focus. Gardeners as well as travel fans can relate & enjoy!

I loved this book! Its stories by an Englishwoman who lived in Sicily for 50 years in a house an uncle had built. The book is structured so a chapter deals with individuals that were part of her daily life as well as visitors. Given teh time frame, this structure makes sense. It also includes some pictures. It has really made me want to discover more about Sicily!

Another excellent book by an excellent author! An evangelical Christian, Philip Yancey is very respectful of other Christians which I find refreshing. As a thoughful & practicing Catholic, I really appreciate his work.

Another great historical novel from Edward Rutherford- much in the same vein as James Michener. Excellent choice for reading before a trip to London!

I loved this book! I read it after I had been to Italy and fell in love with the Caravaggio's at the church mentioned in the book. I also had a trip planned to Ireland so I made sure I found the painting in the National Musuem in Dublin.
It is a fascinating read for lovers of art, Italy, Ireland, and people!

I have to admit, I could barely finish this book. I enjoyed the first part about the journey and setting up the colony, especially correcting my mistaken impressions. Unfortunately, I could not keep the individual tribes straight so everything ran together as the book got more into the Indian troubles and war. And I was a history major!

Great book to read before going to England. Going to England 12 years ago was my first time out of the US o/t Mexico. Now I look for all types of travel narratives, history, historical fiction, etc in any area I hope to travel today. It adds so much to the trip!

Really enjoyed it! It is based more on characters and the way they were in the movie as opposed to the TV series. I plan to read the others as well as the SG-1 and Atlantis ones

I bought my copy when I was in England visiting the area. It really helped pull everything together. He is very similar to James Michener in that he starts in the very early prehistory and focuses on several families through the generations. I have read several of his other books and have the rest on my TBR list. You cannot go wrong with his books!

Loved the book! The author taught English at a school in Ankara Turkey for a year. He really tried to be part on the community and did a far amount of traveling. Good insights into the country. I can't wait to go!
