While somewhat formulaic, this series is fun to read, and usually has interesting plot twists.

I really enjoyed this book, some time ago, and actually purchased this copy as a graduation gift for a high school musician who was interested in building guitars. The story of working with the wood was almost magical in places.

I enjoyed this novel so much that it inspired me to look for more books by Mr. Haruf. I appreciated that the portrayal of clergy was not as patronizing or superficial as in some instances in the general media, and that some of the liturgical references were accurate.

I enjoy the Sharyn McCrumb books, particularly the ones referencing old hymns and ballads. There is often a unique twist to the plot.
