Absolutely stunning how the author allows you to see the young kidnappers as human beings with wishes and dreams and desires and she shows how the circumstances of our births can shape us without us knowing or even wanting it to. I disagree that the ending was a let down. We don't live in such a world where kidnapping and terrorism is commonplace and where the ending would be an all too logical conclusion, so I think it took people by surprise. Not your typical "happily everafter". Highly recommended reading! I can't wait to read her State of Wonder.

I love Amy Tan's portrayals of mother-daughter relationships and this is no exception. The conversations and descriptions of confrontation are so true to life. If you liked Joy Luck Club, you will like this one too.

I like a book that catches you immediately. This book didn't do that. It took me until chapter 2 to really get interested. That said, I ended up really liking the book and having a rather melancholy feeling upon finishing it, wanting more. I loved the characters. Robert Waller gives them soul. No plot persay, but a story is there with a beginning, middle and ending. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

This book was a complete surprise for me. I picked it out of a box of books at a sale thinking I would simply put it on my bookshelf for someone else to request. I decided to read it and was immediately hooked. The story will have you crying and cheering all at the same time. I did think the author was a bit on the crazed side but all in all a heart wrenching and thought provoking story.

Daughter of Persia : A Woman's Journey From Her Father's Harem Through the Islamic Revolution

Interesting especially in light of politics and what's going on in the middle east now. I found it a bit difficult to get into in the early pages, but it picks up later.

I bought this book for $1 at a used book store and wasn't expecting much. I was happily surprised though. It was a good little story about a town that has not had rain in 4 years and one of the residents hires a rainmaker. Good storytelling and rounding out of the characters by the author. I will be looking for her other novel to read as well.

WOW! What an easy way to watch your weight. I made notes about the various restaurants from the information in this book and I carry it with me everywhere I go. It's working too! I would suggest this book for everyone that frequents fast food restaurants. Some of the good and bad choices will surprise you.

OMG! BORING! As one of the other reviewers noted, do yourself a favor and read the first chapter then jump ahead to Part 3. I'm not making fun, but it seems like the author is suffering from Alzheimers. She constantly mentions the same things over and over and over like it's the first time she's ever said them. I was SO disappointed in this last book. What a shame.

I have read all of the Inspector Gamache novels up to this point and have really enjoyed them all but this one, not so much. The characters we have come to love and care about are there but the emotion and description usually so prevalent in previous books seems lacking in this one. I do think it got better toward the end though and redeemed itself somewhat. One funny fact, my book had a jacket and it took me the longest time to figure out why it was "upside down". Funny! I do agree with others that this is not a series that you can pick up and read with any of the books. You MUST read in sequence.

This is one I could not put down. Lovely prose. Made you feel like you were living through it. The main characters are well developed and believable. Wish the author had developed the brothers more though. That side of the story seems like it would be interesting. I can definitely recommend this book.

This book was a disappointment. The story and characters seemed contrived and corny. I was hoping for a real political thriller. NOT! I do like Glenn Beck and agree with his political theories, so that was not the reason for my dislike of the novel. I was actually hoping to love the book. Mr. Beck does outline a "wag the dog" kind of world which is a definite possibility but I still can't recommend.

The only reason I finished this book was because I felt a duty to the reading group I belong to. It was an extremely difficult read and I found myself skipping paragraph after paragraph. It took a very long time to get to where there was any action in the book and I almost gave up. Cannot recommend it.

Very well written, kept me reading long into the night. Kind of a bleak story of the end of days but there is an underlying thread of courage, and good old American grit.
