I truly loved this story. Oddly enough, the first half of the book took me quite some time to get through, as I didn't find it very interesting. I actually considered not continuing many times. The book is set in present times in part, but the majority takes place in 1830 during the lifetime of Dr. Oliver Wendell Holmes. Although I always enjoy a mysterious murder, I, personally, must be in a certain mood for historical fiction to enjoy it. Though fiction, this tale is realistic. I did not even think about the fact that the author, Tess Gerritsen, is a physician and would, no doubt, be respectful of & knowledgeable of the accomplishments of Dr. O. W. Holmes until I had finished the book.
I originally chose this title because it listed Dr. Maura Isles of the Rizzoli & Isles series as a character. This is a little misleading, as she has an extremely small appearance in the story.
After stumbling slowly through the first half of the book, I read the last half in one quick sitting. Ordinarily, I am absolutely sickened by romantic books, yet I must describe this book as a really wonderful love story. I'm not at all a sappy, happy person, but I found the 1830s portion to be very touching. There were quite a few characters that I found interesting & to whom I grew attached; there were also characters I disliked and characters I felt sympathy for in a way that added to the story. I particularly enjoyed the historical significance of the character Wendell Holmes. I was left wanting to learn more about the actual person & his brilliance in the medical field. There was also the mystery aspect of the story that initially attracted me that helped make this story so great to me. This is a book that I could definitely see myself rereading some day.

Not really my type of book. I really love gruesome murder mysteries; sometimes I read so many truly suspenseful books that I need a break to clear my mind before I get scared. That is when I reach books like these. I read books 1&2 of this series. They were both quick reads, & sometimes that is a good thing too. Overall, however, the series is much too "girly" for me. If you like fun, quick, & easy books, this series may be for you.

The first half of the book was just alright for me, but the last 150 pages or so were great! As an elementary school teacher, I identified with the Anne Navarre character. I found her relationships with and actions/reactions toward her students to be believable. I am usually able to spot the killer in a book without much effort, but this one took me longer. I liked that! I did eventually figure it out, but not long before it was revealed.

I loved this book! It really kept me guessing. I think Chris Bohjalian is a great author. I read what may have been his first book about a house. It was titled Hangman, and I rarely see it listed with his most current, popular books. I enjoyed it though. I don't scare easily; however, I found myself a little creeped out while reading it late at night. Try it too if you ever see it!

I am really enjoying this series. I like the characters and their relationships. I find myself wanting certain things for the characters. Hope these two get together... Hope this one isn't insane... Hope this one feels better... Those types of things as if they were real. I think that what should happen when characters are well-developed. I look forward to what the series brings next for each character.

I just finished Kisscut, my 2nd Karin Slaughter. I love a good series, & this Grant County series is a good one. Karin Slaughter is a great author for the slightly morbid (yes, like me!). Shock-value plays a big part of her books. A friend mentioned to me that she enjoyed this second book more than the first, Blindsighted, because it wasn't as graphic, but that really isn't true! I can hardly wait to discuss this with her! Not much bothers me, & I wasn't disturbed by either book, but I did find myself saying, "Eww!" a few times during this one!
I really enjoy the relationships in this series, particularly that of Sara & Jeffrey. I won't give anything away, but for those who have only read books 1 &/or 2, I want to add that I am anxious to get to book 3 because I'm a bit worried about Lena & how her behavior & thoughts are concerning... I can almost hear ominous old-time soap-opera music in the background along with, "Tune in next book when we find Lena..."

What an awesome book! What I loved most about this book was that it wasn't written by or for a perky 25-year-old divorcing & starting over. It was written by & intended for someone more like me, a sad, lost 44 year old (I won't specify whether that describes me or the author *sigh*).
As a voracious reader, I'd read many, many self-help divorce books by the time I found this one, & I'd been alone for over 6 months. I really thought I was past learning or really needing help, yet I found myself crying before getting through the introduction & first chapter. It was incredibly surprising, because I'm ordinarily not one to cry easily, felt I was past the weeping phase of divorcing & being alone, & had been through several other separate & equally heart-shattering experiences since my divorce; yet, I found myself making realizations I should have been aware of previously and wading through emotions I hadn't yet faced.
This book was truly the "kind of best friend" you need beside you as you suffer through & recover from divorce. The recommendations it suggested were extremely beneficial. Even though the topic is not a particularly happy one, the author's humor was hilarious as well as inspiring.
I plan to keep my copy & buy copies for friends who I find in this trying situation in the future.

I think this may be my favorite of the series so far. I enjoyed getting to know about Jeffrey's past. It was fun to learn about the beginning of Sara & Jeffrey's relationship. This book wasn't as graphic as the earlier ones, but I don't mind gory details. I actually like the specifics!
I really like this series!

I really liked this book. It had me hooked right away, telling of a terrible occurrence without specifics. I was eager to know what had happened & to whom it had happened.
The characters were all interesting and I stayed curious to know more about each person as I continued to read this book.
I would love to say more, but I don't want to give anything away. I will say that I loved the references to the title "Missing Pieces," and the way it related to so many of the characters.

What a great book! I was hooked right away & didn't want to put the book down. The idea of finding out about your biological parents & the reason for your adoption is interesting enough in a common situation, but this author's scenario was horrifying!
I liked the way the story was told as therapy sessions. There was even advice the main character received that I know I need to learn lessons from!
The book was full of suspence. A little over 1/2 way through, I thought the pace was slowing down. I later realized I just couldn't wait to get to the end, & the ending was really good too. I didn't find anything disappointing about this book, & I am definitely going to look for the author's other book.

Things you should know about me before you consider my opinion of this book: 1) Harlan
Coben is my favorite author, 2) I love Myron Bolitar & his friends & would love to read more books about them, & 3) I love a good series.
That being said, I loved this book. I know it is for young adults, & I passed that status long ago, but still I loved it. I had hoped to find Myron in this book, & I did catch sight of him as a supporting character. As I stated before, I loved Myron's group of steadfast friends; Mickey has his own band of quirky, lovable buddies. This book is obviously the first in a new series, & the end leaves you wanting to read the next. Even though it was intended for young adults, the details were not simple or uninteresting. In fact, I became more & more interested as I continued reading. I finished it quickly.
I still want a new Myron Bolitar book to come out, & I hope the Mickey series is addition rather than a replacement. Either way, I may be the oldest person in line for the next Mickey Bolitar book, but at least I'll be the one with the clear complexion. :)

I wasn't really awed until the end of the book. If we had 1/2 stars, I'd go 3 1/2 stars. Although I found most of the story to poke along, the end was pretty suspenseful & not horribly obvious.
The whole "Rizzoli & Isles #1" is a little misleading. Rizzoli was in the book, but I never saw Isles. I've never seen the television series based on these books. I love a good series, so I'll surely pick up #2 soon.

At first I didn't like this series as much as the "Grant County" series, but it didn't take long for me to decide I did like this book a lot. As with the GC series, I have favorite characters I love & characters I don't care much for. I liked the story line and how it all fell together. I love this author!

I read this book with a group of friends. Unfortunately, it isn't really my type of book. I like suspenseful murder mysteries with all the bloody details! I promised a friend that I'd give the series another chance, so I will. I tend to get hooked on series by getting attached to the characters, but I don't know about this series. I think that this series is for those who like "girlie" books.

Another great Slaughter! I liked the way the characters from the two previous series were brought together. I didn't think this book moved very quickly, but the end was incredibly suspenseful & redeemed any lags. I'm off to read the next in the Georgia series!
