This book was named to the New York Public Library's Books for the Teen Aged list in
2007, but I would only recommend it to a teen with some disclaimers for the behaviors of certain characters. Overall, I loved the book and it has some very good points--some from the "Book of Bright Ideas" that one of the two youngsters in the book maintains. Some of the lessons are just about the hard, cold facts of life and of how we see ourselves. Also, it is not just another book with a feel-good ending but one that is more true to real-life.

As always, Picoult, has written a very insightful book. Her characters are well defined and show all the strengths and frailties of people living ordinary lives but experiencing extraordinary events. I am an avid reader of Amish stories, but, of course, "Plain Truth" shows the underside of these unusual people. The story of Katie Fisher, an 18 year old Amish girl involved in an unsolved murder case and her defense lawyer, Ellie Hathaway, a disillusioned big city lawyer make for an intriguing read of the clash between two vastly different cultures.

I have just finished reading this book and I recommend it highly to anyone with a love for horses and anyone who just loves a good "read." Annemarie's story begins when she is involved in a serious injury just at the peak of what was expected to be a great career as a champion rider. The aftermath of the tragedy sees her turn away from horses and riding completely for many years. A series of life-chaning events puts her back at the ranch where she grew up and learned to love riding. The story of Annemarie and her family shows the tragic results of leaving old wounds unattended and old family hurts not mended. This is a book to be passed around to anyone who loves to read.
