This book is as sad and depressing as they come.
Sure, EVERYONE is reading it, but that's probably because no one wants to be left out from having something to say about it.
This is NOT a steamy, erotic romance story, like it's being advertised. It's domestic violence. Seriously. It actually hurt to read, partially because the writing itself is wretchedly un-adult, and partially because Ana is so stupid.
Christian is NOT a likable guy at all. His only positive traits are his wealth and his willingness to spend it on Ana. He is cold, shallow, uptight, possessive and a total @$$.
Ana is a pathetic dumb fawn who tragically mistakes physical attraction for love. Seriously. She does. He's hot, so she thinks she loves him, despite him being OCD-level obsessed with stifling her. He actually sells her car against her will because he doesn't like it. He buys her a Blackberry, and has it delivered to her at work, so he demand she talk to him whenever he wants. He follows her, against her wishes, on a vacation to visit her family.
It is a sad commentary on our society that this book is as popular as it is. If I'd known how pathetic this story is, I would have avoided it.

Not worth the hype. A slow and mundane read, with a small twist. You'll find yourself not giving a hoot about any of the characters.

I'll just say this book is alright. The dichotomy between the sisters was so cliche: Skinny, flightly size 0 standing in stark contrast to her dumpy, frumpy, overly intellectual sister. ...And of course there's the sappy reunion at the end. The addition of the kindly estranged grandmother helped keep it from being an utter joke. The writing was decent and the plot moved along at a respectable pace.

Beautifully written but the plot leaves much to be desired.

Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH (Rats of NIMH, Bk 1)
Review Date: 6/8/2008

Both adults, one of my friends told me this was one of her favorite books, and she insisted I read it as I'd never read i as a child. I buzzed through it in a weekend, and was somewhat disappointed. Maybe it'd be great for a kid, but all you adults, this is a work FAR inferior to the "techincally written for kids, but it appeals to adults too" Harry Potter.

I have no idea what people like about this book. It is the literary equivalent of watered down McDonald's coffee; it's not even watered down GOOD coffee. Allow me to save you many hours of your life (while trying not to spoil anything in case you do want to read this drivel): Her husband dies, she's sad, very sad. She's grieving. She's still sad. She finds out he may have been keeping secrets from her, which she loathes. But then she keeps secrets from others. She's sad.

If you like vapid, baseball reads where the sex is all wham-bam-thank-you ma'am, this is the book for you. If not, try The Catch. Much better character development.

We Thought You Would Be Prettier : True Tales of the Dorkiest Girl Alive

I Thought You Would be Funnier, Ms. Notaro.
This book just tries too hard with too little real substance. Not worth a penny.
