I like some of Edmund Morgan's historical material, but this book was like someone pulled his MOST opinionated pieces of historical writings and put them in this book.
I couldn't finish it. It was wayyyy too much of Morgan's opinions about who believed what and why and his own personal interpretations of their thoughts and actions.
I would barely give this book any decent review.

Book was same old assassination story but with a different twist. Author makes a case that the American Civil War was fought for white supremacy.
While his thoughts have validity now, I'm not sure historically the war reason would be figured as such.
African Americans had no place in antebellum society except as slaves.
Interesting to consider in light of today's political environment.

These novellas weren't of the usual quality. ONE CHILD by Barbara Cameron was particularly lame, in my opinion.
Way too much conversation, much of which I cannot imagine ever happening in the context of the plot. I skipped through that story quite quickly.

This is probably one of the very best of these Amish romance stories I have ever read! Much more of a story line than the usual ones. Highly recommended!

I love history, but I must admit I didn't know too much about Julius Caesar. Learned an awful lot in this book! Well written, thoughtful, and full of goofy well researched details, much of it from Caesar's own writing.

It's too bad, Ms. Ellerbe dumbs down the information she gives out in this book.
While the Christian Church, like all institutions, definitely ha had its problems throughout history, since it is run by human beings, Ms. Ellerbe doesn't necessarily do her research all that well. This book is a pro-feminist, post-modern revisionist history of the Church quoting, and often misquoting, mostly popular, second hand, opinionated, unreseached sources instead of primary sources that real scholars use. Since when do scholars research anything in bookstores???
On the back cover it is said that "By denying evil we do harm". True, but, as an author, she needs to do her research well, making the reader understand why the church did what it did, not simply offer her own opinion of what has happened. And she can offer her opinion, but then title the book accordingly - Ellerbe's Dark Side of the Christian History.
She's completely misguided on the definition of Gnosticism, so any opinions on that subject are questionable from the beginning. Christianity is NOT a branch of Judaism (ask any Jewish rabbi that question, if you want an earful!), so her polytheism theory goes out the window.
We are also told Marcion was a Christian and the Church Fathers certainly didn't call him one; he was excommunicated.
I would like to spend a day writing down & correcting the errors from an author who apparently didn't do much reading herself, but time is of the essence here.

EFT is an effective "self-help" tool for emotional healing, and is even more effective when, as Christians, we incorporate prayer and Scripture.
Once we have cleared from a physiological basis the emotional roadblocks, we can step into what God ordained for us to do for His Kingdom.
Try EFT! I know you will be surprised how effective it is; however, if you are large, painful traumas, you do need to enlist the help of a qualified EFT practitioner.

What a wonderfully written early American history book! Ms. Berkin did an amazing job outlining the differences in women's roles in the various geographic areas of the colonies. She includes Caucasian, African, and Indigenous women.
I applaud her writing skill and her intimate knowledge.

Too slow, too repetitious, lack of historic depth for a story that takes place during the "Burned Over District" era.
Just didn't feel like a real event even though this book is fiction.
