An intriguing story of the nature of truth, memory and the workings of the mind set against the background of a murder. It is not what I would call a mystery, but a good read nonetheless.

More than just a mystery (and the mystery is intriguing), A Dangerous Road gives the reader a true sense of Memphis in 1968. Plot, characterization, dialogue, atmosphere, this book has it all.

Obviously I'm a minority of one. I hated this book, and I find it amazing that others are recommending it for dog lovers. How maiming and torturing a dog to satisfy one's own self obsession makes it a "touching love story" is beyond me. (And just as a side note, you must have language first in order to form and retrieve memories.)

McKenzie is a former cop, now an unlicensed P.I. in the Twin Cities. Sounds like a hundred other mysteries -- but it's not. Mac is real people with real strengths and real weaknesses. And this is one heck of a great story.

First book in the Carson Ryder/Harry Nautilus series. One of the better entries in the psychotic-serial-killer genre. Kerley actually spends more time on character development than the slice-and-dice which makes for an extremely well-written suspense novel.

Instead he finds himself drawn into the Draper case, and unwittingly taking the lid off a surprising variety of old scandals. Some of which involve senior policemen...
