The Aunt Dimity series are a lot of fun, but too much of a good thing is, well, too much. Having not read the last several in the series, I picked this one up. The "bad guy" was not readily identifiable, so that was a plus. Lori's personality, however, does not seem to have changed much with all her adventures - still naive, "boy crazy", overly impetuous, and just a little too much - maybe I have just outgrown her...either way, Lori is no longer a captivating character for me.

Blood Brothers: The Dramatic Story of a Palestinian Christian Working for Peace in Israel (Expanded Edition)
Review Date: 6/30/2010
Helpful Score: 2

If you don't know much about Israel/Palestine, this book is a good starting point. Writing with humor and empathy, Chacour tells his story as a Paletinian Christian living in a land that was given to the Jewish people in 1948 - the effect on his family's home village; his experiences studying and traveling while becoming a Melkite Catholic Priest; and his experiences working with the villagers of Ibillin (in Northern Israel) and the Jewish government after he realized that education was the answer for these poor villagers. This is the story of how the school built. The school now has Christian, Druze, and Muslim students and teachers and an exchange program with a neighboring Jewish village. Before the latest Infitada, the school also had Jewish students. The school, which goes from elementary through high school, has an excellent reputation in spite of continuing problems dealing with the Jewish government.

This book is an easy yet enlightening read. I highly recommend it. Elias Chacour is now the head Bishop (sorry, I don't know the proper term) of all the Melkite Catholic Christians. He has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize several times and has received numerous awards for his work in promoting peace among those of different faiths who live in Israel.

Very interesting book - while reading a good story I learned quite a bit about Caraveggio and the intrigue of discovering a masterpiece. Yes, I do recommend it.

As always, Miss Julia books are a lot of fun with just enough twists and characters and Southern over the top charm and self-righteousness to keep me interested until the last page. This one is better read after reading the first in the series. Enjoy!

Pirate King (Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes, Bk 11) (Large Print)
Review Date: 10/27/2011

I should have known when she said she planned to have fun with this book. She had so much fun designing an intricate plot, that it took her about half the book to get into any real action. My daughter and I agreed that it just took too long for the action part of the plot to happen. Neither of us wanted to keep it, so I posted it right away, which is not really a positive vote for this Russell-Holmes novel.

Penman's historical mystery series is, as are her better known works, well researched and thus give the reader a good idea of "the life and times", so to speak, of that era.
It is a cleverly written and good story.

I thought this book was very interesting and good - reads like a murder mystery for historical buffs. I usually read historical fiction or non-fiction and easily give it four stars.

A wonderfully written book filled with humor and believable characters. A plot that doesn't rely on sex and/or violence - what a refreshing change! This is a book I would have read outloud to my children had I known about it earlier, but don't let that recommendation keep you from reading it - a great and fun read for all ages.
