Since Madden went into Jumpers, and Cooney (RIP) is no longer with us - some Horse Showers may not remember Beacon Hill from the 1980's when they were tops in the Equitation division. But this book is still excellent for putting the winning "look" on a horse going into the show ring.

I'm glad I got this out of the library and didn't spend money on it. If you don't have the income to get a plane ticket to California to see Dr. Nathan - you won't get much out of this book. The tests he "recommends" aren't standard tests and (as the doctor warns in one chapter) aren't usually covered by health insurance. It's interesting information - but nothing you can use "on your own".

I read this book when it first came out - and I still have Attila the Hun leadership mottos tacked up to remind me of the truths in this book:
Attila on "Doing The Right Thing"
The deepest scars a Hun bears are not those of the body, but rather of the soul. And wounds to the body heal faster and more thoroughly than those inflicted on the soul.
Attila on "Courage"
For Huns, every good and excellent thing they can accomplish carries within it the potential for failure.
Attila on "Problem Solving"
Chieftains who live only to solve problems become martyrs, and death comes slowly for them.

Funny story line - if you like snappy repartee a la Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant - this is a book you'll enjoy.

Funny! If you love horses - this is a wonderful book to laugh along with the foibles of riding and showing.

A compilation of the best articles published in Practical Horseman magazine from the 1980's. Good training tips for Hunter / Jumper horse showing.

John Francome is almost as good as Dick Francis for British Horse Racing mysteries.
