This was a very interesting book that revolves around a silent film actor, Hector Mann, who disappeared in the 20's. A college professor, David Zimmer, is suffering after the death of his wife and children when he laughs for the first time at Hector Mann's actions in one of his silent movies. Zimmer undertakes a thorough study of Mann's volume of work, but little does he know, Mann continued to make movies after his disappearance.

I always enjoy books by Anchee Min. I have read all her books and enjoyed Pearl of China as much as the others. The character of Willow is interesting and thoughtful. Her friendship with Pearl is very powerful and we discover the depth of Pearl's love of China and Willow in the final chapters of the book. Reading this book has encouraged me to seek out books by Pearl S. Buck to learn more about China and it's people.

I have been reading all the Jack Reacher books in order, and this one is my favorite one yet. Within the first two chapters, I was pulled in. I think Child's writing style is excellent in this book. His use of first person is what did it for me. It's like I was watching this tale unfold from inside Reacher's head. It was just more enjoyable to read instead of the usual Reacher said this, Reacher did that, format that I was used to. I hope Child continues with the first person account. Looking forward to starting book 8 and will continue to read whatever Lee Child writes.
