My respect for what our WW II vets went through never ends, this book is not for the faint of heart. The POW's of the Japanese were put through hells we can't imagine. A factual and stirring book of Bataan, and the fate of the POW's, and the mission that rescued the survivors in the Philippines. A good read for WW II buffs...

Very well written review of this case that still galvanizes opinions. I'm old enough to remember the case when it happened, but Mr. Olsen brings it to life, lots of details I didn't know. Highly recommended!

If you like Dave, you'll love this one. The Elephant and the Dandilion cracked me up, was well as the vasectomy story. Typical, irreverant Dave, always funny and always welcome. Don't listen and drink 'cause you may snort liquids out your nose...

An excellent, throughly researched account of the Mayaguez incident. If the the fate of those 3 Marines who were left behind doesn't make you pause and perhaps shed a tear, I don't know what will. The author was a Vietnam F-4 pilot, and relates in an aside, his sense of failure on his last mission. That these were final shots fired in the Vietnam war is tragic not only because it is a reflection of the entire conflict, but furthers the tragic loss of life, that as the author relates, may not have been necessary. RIP brave men, and thanks for your sacrifice.

Loved it, a dark, brooding book about a Vietnam vet dealing with the ghosts of his past and dealing the with the reality of the streets as a cop. It's not a clear cut good guy/bad guy book, but the justice Hanson dispenses is street justice. If you liked "Sympathy for the Devil" you'll like this!

A tale of incredible bravery and survival. A must read for aficionados of naval history, WW II history, and first class writing. The story of the USS Houston and the brave men who manned her will move you. They faced incredible odds, and did their best to slow down a vastly larger Japanese Fleet, and then had to survive the hell of captivity. A great book...

I read this years ago, and it still haunts me. It is one of the most harrowing accounts of the Holocaust that I've ever read, painful and raw, but it's unflinching portayal should be read by everyone so that the history of this is never lost, and every doubter should have to read it. Well written, but not an easy read by any means.

Having read alot about Vietnam, and reading the reviews, I really expected to like this book. I didn't even finish it. I found it repetitive and frankly, boring. I guess if it's the only Vietnam book you read it might seem deep, but I consider "Matterhorn", or "The 13th Valley", "Nam" or "Dispatches" to be the best books about Vietnam. Sorry Tim, no disrespect for your service or experiences, but I wasn't impressed. Remember, this opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it. Happy reading...
