The choppy writing that didn't seem to relate to the characters or plot prevented me from continuing with this book.

The Kate Fansler mysteries are very unusual--cerebral and academic and also funny. This is a good example. They are well worth reading if you are a mystery fan looking for a different experience.

This is a little gem of a mystery that really has one foot in the literary novel genre. It is more intricate and dense than the typical whodunit as it tells a fascinating story about families, women, wealth, secrecy, a novelist, fame, and a literary-minded sleuth. If those things are your cup of tea, you will find it worth five stars, as I did.
