--Part of the World Leaders past and present series, biographies written especially for young adults, introducing the men and women whose ideas and actions have determined the course of history. Profusely illustrated with paintings, engravings, maps, and photographs.--
Excellent resource for studying WWII. If you are studying the period without a textbook, or desire an extra resource to enhance it, this book is very well done and understandable.

Mark Twain's Classic story is a very entertaining read. This is a complete and unabridged version. I enjoyed rereading this one even more as an adult than I did in high school.

"Theodore Taylor looks at Japenese Intelligence work and American anti-intelligence efforts, which were often careless or ineffective. He shows that although the US possessed advanced technology, the info gathered was often discarded or misclassified. But once the raid was launched, bravery abounded--on both sides."

A classic tale portraying the value of individualism...
"He lived in the dark ages of the future. In a loveless world he dared to love the woman of his choice. In an age that had lost all trace of science and civilization he had the courage to seek and find knowledge. But these were not the crimes for which he would be hunted. He was marked for death becaues he had comitted the unpardonable sin: he had stood forth from the mindless human herd. He was a man alone."
This edition includes an intro. by Ayn Rand's heir, Leonard Peikoff. It contains excerpts from documents by Ayn Rand--letters, interviews, and journal notes, in which she discusses Anthem. The Appendix reproduces the entire original British edition with Ayn Rand's handwritten edtorial changes.

When Tacy moves across the street, she and Betsy become such good friends, everyone begins to think of them as Betsy-Tacy. This classic book, first published in the 1940s, has been loved by generations of readers, and tells of their adventures. It is the first of a series. Charming.

One of my favorite books when I was a girl, The Boxcar Children was also a big hit with my children. Wonderful as a bedtime read-aloud or for children just embarking on reading chapter books on their own.
