This book has the Bronstein magic. He writes in color, but many authors write in black and white. For that alone, his books are all worth it. To Bronstein, chess is ALIVE and exciting, and he conveys that in his writing. He never over-analyzes, whic is fine, because ultimately to progress in chess, it is the reader who must analyze the games. And this book has many good games to analyze, one per page.

Bobby Dodge, member of the elite STOP team in Boston, MA, which deals with dangerous police situations, has just completed a grim task: as a sniper he has ended the life of a husband Jimmy Gagnon, who seemingly was on the verge of harming either his wife Catherine or his son Nathan. And to add to Bobby's distress at having to kill another man, he is immediately attacked by Jimmy's father, Judge James Gagnon, a powerful Boston personage, for acting rashly and caving in to the manipulations of Catherine.

But what is it about the past of Bobby, Catherine, and Jimmy, and even the Judge, that has led to this point? Lisa Gardner expertly combines the unfolding of traumatic disturbances in their lives with rapid fire developments in the present. Given her history, could Catherine, one with elegant, fragile beauty, orchestrate her own husband's death? Maybe Bobby knew more about the Gagnon's then he is telling - are his actions completely innocent? Why is the Judge's and his wife's past shrouded in mystery?

This is Lisa Gardner's best book, and most of her previous books were quite good. The plot is great and it moves. Yet the characters get the right amount of attention. And there are some nice twists. This latest effort by Gardner will disappoint few.

The creator of Arthur gives us this behind -the-scenes look at Arthur and Buster's favorite television series, The Bionic Bunny Show, as we see the actor arrive at the studio, get dressed, perform stunts and go home for the evening. The book's pages look rather like a television when we see how the episode appears to viewers. This humorous book, featured on Reading Rainbow, would be great for Arthur fans or for when you want to discuss the unreality of tv shows.

From the back of the book:

The updated edition of the classic book CHAMP-BEYOND THE LEGEND explores the scientific mystery of Lake Champlain's Loch Ness monster-like animals called Champ. Cryptozoologist Joseph W Zaraynski informs readers about the historical and scientific basis to support the hypothesis that Lake Champlain is the habitat for a colony of 15 to 25 foot long unidentified animals. This new edition of CHAMP-BEYOND THE LEGEND includes recent information to document the latest reported sightings of Champ and to detain scientific expeditions in pursuit of Champ that have deployed cameras, side-scan sonar, and an underwater robot called remotely-operated-vehicle. All of this continues to make the new edition of CHAMP-BEYOND THE LEGEND the acknowledged "Manual" on the subject of Lake Champlain's mystery animals.

Ages 4^-8. Using portions of his best-selling adult work Book of Virtues, former secretary of education William Bennett teams up with artist Michael Hague to create a collection of stories, poems, and fables in a format more suitable for children. Noting in his introduction that his goal is to further the "moral education of the young," Bennett has chosen selections to illustrate 10 virtues, which he further divides into four groups, among them, courage/perseverance and compassion/faith. Many selections, such as the Aesop fables, are easily found elsewhere, but Bennett has also included some full-length versions of poems and tales known only vaguely today. A few selections seem badly dated or unbearably heavy-handed (for example, the story of the boy whose "please" didn't get enough fresh air so it ran away to another boy's mouth), and the apocryphal tale of George Washington and the cherry tree should have been labeled as such. Hague's plentiful artwork adds enormously to the charm of the collection. In keeping with each selection, his style ranges widely, from the comical to the lushly romantic and sweetly old-fashioned.
