This book was inspired by Graham Greene's life. As usual, he masterfully creates a story that exposes the heart of a person's relationship with God, through pain and rebellion. Bendrix carries on an adulterous love affair with Sarah, until she realizes she cannot sin any more and breaks it off. Bendrix is very bitter, until he runs into Sarah's husband again, and is pulled back into their lives. Slowly he comes to realize what has changed Sarah's life, and must decide what he will do with God.

This is a charming autobiography of a housewife who wanted to travel, so finally she asked her husband for a "leave of absence". It's a story of travel adventures found by visiting other cultures, and of a marriage that grew as the two people grew, because they trusted each other.

This was a great look inside Iran, and the oppression that exists there toward women and intellectuals. It was also a really cool "lecture" on several literary classics; she is truly a gifted teacher of literature.
