Astronomy brings the whole Universe into perspective, giving the latest theories on how it began as well as the history of the astronomers whose work has revealed it to us. You will get to know the planets intimately; you can work out how much older you would be if you spent 5 Mercurian years away from Earth and find out what the spaceprobe Giotto found when it got close to Halley's Comet. Clear and comprehensive star charts allow you to start being an amateur astronomer right away, with or without a telescope.

Viewing the Great Depression through the everyday life of a child. Bought it for my daughter, but I loved it. It made history more relevant to a child reader.
"November 25, 1932
This is going to be an odd Christmas, no doubt about it. Instead of sugar plums and stockings stuffed with goodies and stacks of presents under the tree, a Time of Bounty, I am thinking of this as The Time of the Dwindling. Everything id diminishing - our money, the light of day, and even the hours that Papa works. But in my heart I know we Swifts are tough - hardened off like those seedlings. I just know that somehow, some way, this shall be Christmas."

In these three-dimensional, movable pictures the inventive and artistic genius of Leonardo da Vinci comes excitingly to life.
Birds flutter across the page as Leonardo experiments with flight; a brilliant panorama of the heavens displays his discoveries about the stars and planets; from his delicate botanical and anatomical drawings to his world-famous painting of the Mona Lisa. Leonardo's art is seen as never before. In this stunning book Caldecott Award-winning artists Alice and Martin Provensen beautifully evoke fifteenth-century Florence, as the fascinating activities on each page delight and instruct readers of every age.

Sara Holland is the shyest girl in the fourth grade. Luckily it's never been a problem- her best friend Wendy has always been there to cover for her.
Then Sara gets some bad news: Wendy's family might be moving to another town. Plus the fourth grade is putting on a class play, and Sara has a leading role!
Sara knows the play will be a disaster if she has to be in it. But when everyone is counting on her on her to be a star- how can she let them down?

This is the best book I've read in a loooong time. One of those that you couldn't put down. it is not appropriate for younger teens because there are a few sexual scenes.

Loved this book, couldn't put it down!
Easy enough for an older child to read, but certainly a great book for adults. About the Oregon Trail and the hardships of families moving by Conestoga Wagon to the west in the 1840s. Based on a true story, the author used diaries, letters and information based on the memories of the descendants of the people in the book.
I would highly recommend to anyone who has an interest in this time period in the USA.

Facts about the Pilgrims and Native Americans. Sign language, riddles. Science experiments (growing corn in a clear jar), recipes (Johhnycake), making cornhusk dolls. Turkeys out of an apple & raisins. Just to name a few. Fun book for the kids.

I love Usborne books! Amazing book covering the history of music as well explanation of what is music. Done in beautiful colored graphics with blurbs of info. Made especially for children but fun for adults, too. We used Usborne books while homeschooling.

I love Usborne books for teaching my children. This one is as good as the rest: lots of information in easy to understand language with lots of pictures put together in bits and pieces to keep your child's attention.
