The ESV has hands down been my favorite translation of the Bible that I've ever read. The text is clear and easy to read. It makes use of a rich but very accurate range of vocabulary words that you rarely see in any other translation. The reading is clear and modern while at the same time the translation is carefully word for word.
It is endorsed by folks such as John Piper, Francis Chan, Mark Driscoll, Max Lucado, Albert Mohler, Jr., R.C. Sproul, Joni Eareckson Tada, Ravi Zacharias, and many more.
It's a must have. And the ESV Study Bible is also a fantastically excellent.

A very thought-provoking read. Sobering. But still great literature. It offers keen insights into nature of human beings.
