The original, and still the best English comedy. From the original, and still the best English writer.

A Zola classic of love, money and betrayal. The original romance novel with soul, pain and compelling social commentary.

A highly-readable adventurous account of two amateur, or, would-be English spies at the dawn of WWI. I was drawn to the book as it is known as the original Spy novel. Intrigue, suspense, nautical, with historical context, I highly recommend to fans of Follett, Le Carre, etc.

You will not read another history book like it: a vertical timeline of a sliver of England and all its occupants, from the Ice age to modern times. A page-turner, with compelling events and character development. This is a master craft.

For lovers of Charlotte Bronte, this is required reading. An unusual independent sort (female, poor yet highly educated) navigates her way through Victorian England/France. Fascinating. Also includes Bronte's personal view of an Anglican in Catholic France.
