This was an easy read, perfect for a night in. I laughed until my sides ached, then cried, then laughed some more. The story is about a young woman â Callie Grey â in a Vermont village who wants to be loved. She thinks she's in love with her boss until he breaks off their ârelationship.â Then she meets the town's new veterinarian, a quiet (read âaloofâ) new resident. Their initial sparks are anything but romantic, but maybe this will turn into something more. The book is both sweetly hilarious and heart-breakingly sad. I'll be looking for more of Kristan Higgins' books.

Lincoln Child does it again. This is a fast-paced thriller in which an oil-drilling platform becomes the site of an underwater mystery. The US government, a herd of scientists, and a few black ops guys are thrown together into an underwater research facility to learn what is down there. Dr. Peter Crane is called in to diagnose a strange illness that is spreading through the faculty. There is a mad rush to solve the medical mystery while a possible saboteur is at work to stop the facility's work. What's down there with them? Who's is trying to shut down the facility? Why? This book is hard to put down. Some of the questions aren't answered until the very last page. Or are they?
P.s. I'm not sure why this called âDeep Stormâ (Jeremy Logan Book 1) since there isn't a character in the book by that name.

Kristan Higgins' books are a fast read that grabs you from the first page. This one had me laughing and crying and laughing again all afternoon.
It's a cute story about a young, widowed baker (Lucy) and her quest to find a new Mr. Almost Right -- she doesn't want to risk her heart again. She breaks off a "friends with benefits" relationship with Ethan, thinking that was a good first step. But was it? She hasn't realized yet that, maybe, the Mr. Really Right was in front of her the whole time.
A quick read perfect for a winter's day in New England. (It doesn't hurt that it's set in New England, too, like most of Higgins' books.)

This was my second read of "Troublemaker"; it's still as good as ever. Linda Howard rarely disappoints with her stories. Morgan Yancy, a member of an elite GO-team (Global Operations) has been targeted while he's stateside but no one knows why. Is there a mole in the operation? Is someone outside trying to kill GO-team members?
Morgan's boss, Mac, decides that to keep him safe and let him heal after being shot, Morgan needs to recuperate at the home of his ex-step-sister, Isabeau "Bo" Moran, the police chief of a small West Virginia town.
Bo is comfortable in her small-town life with her Golden Retriever, Tricks. Having a surprise houseguest upsets her routine and way of thinking about life, but the money her ex-step-brother offers her is too good to pass up. The couple lives in her home, a converted barn, where Morgan slowly recovers. All the while, Bo is dealing with small-town politics, working part-time as a technical writer, and taking Tricks for long walks.
Tricks tends to steal the show whenever she's mentioned. To say that the dog has a charming personality is an understatement. She's precocious and determined to get her way in all things. About the time Tricks is targeted in town during a homecoming parade, things come to a head for Morgan when the bad guys show up to finish him off.
This is a great book showcasing Howard's talent for story-telling.

I try not to gush over books. Everyone has a favorite author or series or genre. This one, though, surpasses my top faves in all three categories.
I've never read Linwood Barclay's books before and now all his are on my wishlist. "Trust Your Eyes" is almost two stories in one until they converge in the latter half of the book creating a roller-coaster ride of tension and humor that hints of "Rear Window."
The lead characters, two brothers whose father has died in a tragic accident, push against each other as a family does. This time, though, Thomas, who is schizophrenic and "tours" the cities of the world via Whirl360 (a loosely disguised Google Earth), memorizing the streets as he goes, imagines he sees what might be a murder in progress. The online image has to be months old, right? He convinces Ray to go to NYC to check it out anyway. While Ray is seeking answers about the screenshot for his brother and about his father's death for his own peace of mind, they stumble upon a conspiracy that puts them in the line of fire. This book draws you in from the beginning and keeps you engaged until the very end.
