I'm trying to teach my 7 year old the basics of cooking. So far we've made the soft pretzels and the brownies from this book. My daughter was able to read through the ingredients and the instructions fairly easily, and the step by step instructions are good. The actual recipes are not complicated and they taste really good. However, the brownie frosting was a bit too difficult for her. It took me three batches to get it to come out right. Cooking the butter with the buttermilk and cocoa was the issue. By this time, my daughter had lost interest. We probably should have picked something a little easier for our second try. My other comment about the book is that the illustrations of each food are cartoon drawings, not an actual picture. I would have prefered actual pictures for her to look through to find something that she might like.

This is a cute little tale about a barnyard of animals borrowing a little girl's potty. Great for potty training. My girls really loved it.

This was an ok book for our kindergartener. We had to be careful because at one place in the book the mouse says "the teacher stinks", and we had to advise our child about not saying unkind things about people. Also, if you're looking for a "lesson learned" book this isn't the one for you. The mouse never does his homework because he plays in the snow and at the end of the story he builds a snowman for his teacher instead of turning in a written project.

We read this to our five year old and she really enjoyed it. Can't wait until she can read it on her own.

I really enjoy Susan Elizabeth Phillips books, and this one is my favorite.
