If you have enjoyed Gregory's other books from this period, you will enjoy this one, too. I found myself having to look up the history, as I was so swept up in the narrative I almost expected a change in fate. Sadly, the ending still came. Not necessarily a book I'll read over again, but still enjoyable read. I like the way that Gregory humanizes historical figures.

Completely engaging, romantic adventure! I love historical fiction, and usually pick up books where the main character is someone of historical significance. I also am a sci-fi fan. This book was recommended to me on both counts, and I wasn't disappointed, though the only sci fi/fantasy aspect of this book is an instance of time travel. The steaminess of the romantic aspects took me off guard, but I really liked it. Now I wonder if I might also love romance novels... hmm. That said, this was still so much more. Claire was written well, she's an easy protagonist to hop along with for the ride. This book also answers the question of: how can I believably put a smart, capable female protagonist into the 18th century? Time travel! You've found this book likely because someone recommended it, now get it, and read it! You won't regret it!

I picked this up not knowing what to expect, and I could not put it down. This is a fully engaging, fantastic ride along with a train circus in Depression era America. There's a little mystery, passion and a lot of adventure. Most of all, it's gritty and real. I loved this book, and I wanted the story to go on and on. Feeling fully immersed in a story like this is just priceless.
