Short & Sweet Review: What I liked? The main characters were not at all conventional. What it lacked? Tenderness that I so love! I wanted a better ending... (sigh) Don't get me wrong it was romantic of sorts, just something was missing...

There is a BIG SPOILER here so do not continue to read if you do not want your first reading of this book to be ruined!!!

First what I love: The characters. Both Abigail and the elder Mr. Calverleigh are not the norm and I love them for that. I also, as another reader appreciated, loved that they fell love early and throughout the book were fond of eachother.
I loved their meeting after being apart.

I did like also how the author put the part of him getting the girl in London to trick his young nephew AFTER she had already arrived in Bath to give you a bit of a surprise when you did catch on...

BUT I did feel that it dragged on in parts that it didn't need to. The book could have been much shorter and just as good I feel. It would have made for a faster read but still satisfying. It took a while to get started getting all the facts and setting in and at other parts just seemed a bit boring.

good but slow 3.5 stars

It is a realistic book. A realistic love that blossoms between the main characters. While a bit bitter sweet, it leaves you aching for Jenny to have something more - what she deserves. You are left with a strong desire for Lynton to love her so much more passionately. I was disappointed and sad.

This book was cute and hilarious. Horatia (Horry)is very endearing to the reader. The story made me laugh out loud. The ending was cut a bit short for me but they usually are. I'd love to see this one in a movie!

This book had an OKAY plot. I think I'm getting a bit bored of this same scenario with the girl dressed as a boy and running away and the one who makes himself the guardian falls in love. I don't know if I could swallow the age difference. Perhaps If i was able to feel them more. What I mean is, you know when they each fell in love but you don't feel it with them. You still find the situation a bit awkward. Atleast I did. This one did not keep my attention as well as the others. This would make a great 1st book to read of Georgette Heyer. Since I've read so much better, it could be that I expect more. :) Still, it's a quick read and good.

This is Georgette Heyer at her best. it made me laugh out loud and cry and even at the same time! I loved that finally a girl with some definite spirit and rebellion enough to bring a man to "bite his lip" and ask forgiveness! Oh yeah! The ending was greater than I thought would be and it will take you through some emotions.

The only con for me was the name calling, even if said in gest, to me that would not deserve a kiss! It bothered me a bit.

But that's it. Still a great book that I will most definitely reread! I would have given it a 4.5 stars if I could have...

Good solid plot and story. I could not help liking the father and had to reread the first chapter after I figured out how it was being told...lol... loved the story. I could still put it down though and did not feel like I had to finish it in one setting. Hence, the 3.5 stars...

SERIOUS SPOILER ALERT> Do not continue to read if you want to be surprised!:

What I loved: Sir Waldo was not only humourous but ever so kind at heart. The fact that he cared for orphans was sweet and showed what kind of man he really was. Also, that he did not care so much for propriety and set his own rules while still being gentle. I truly enjoyed that Ancilla was a governess.

What I did not like: Tiffany the brat! Seriously, I felt Ancilla should have had more of a firm hand on her. I would have liked to have saw Tiffany's progress in the book at becoming a better person instead of everyone accepting her for what she was. I know it ended with her getting severely reprimanded but still! It should have came so much sooner. I almost couldn't stomach her attitude. I also would have a liked a bit more romantic dialogue between the two main characters. Perhaps had the story continued just until he came back to actually "claim" her as his wife instead of just plans.

For this I would give it a 3.75 but since there is not option I gave it a 3.5. I really enjoyed the main personalities of the main characters and who they were.

The gentleman was not so quiet...He was still a very strong character. It was a sweet story. I wish couple were in love for a bit more time in the book.

Warning: Slight Spoiler at the End....

This story was awesome! It was laugh out loud funny, and it has you wondering how it will turn out, but rooting for it to turn out a different way, and then, It does!

Everyone gets who they should; and you are so very happy for everyone involved.

**spoiler alert**

It did leave me wanting more history between Lady Hester and Gareth. How had she come to have such a regard for him? Had she felt this way since his first marriage? How much had she really known him? Her story should be told! I would have loved to have read THAT story. I felt like I had missed something...
