At first, when I got this book (2 of them actually!) I thought "ha ha what a cute gag book for new moms who live in cities" and put it on the shelf. When my son was about 9 months old he pulled it off the shelf and it fell open to a page with a doggie--he got so excited! So, turning each page I tried to find more things he could recognize and discovered there are a lot of things to look at in this book. There are pacifiers, bottles, doggies, shoes, taxis, strollers, trees, books, etc. There's even an entree shaped like a cat's face! I admit, the book seems superficial and perhaps almost virtually useless compared to other childrens' books, but it soon became much loved as my son enjoyed pointing out all the things he knew!

I love this book--it answers so many interesting questions. Question that have always been in the back of my mind... It is written in a very easy manner, with a good deal of humor mixed in. Each entry is only 2-4 pages long so it's very easy to digest. Even those things I never thought I would be interested (19th century Russian composers!) are presented in a stimulating way. Highly recommend as a good ready reference book for any shelf and a good read too!
