I've really enjoyed all of Elizabeth Moon's books; she has a real talent for sci-fi. This book, her latest entry in the Serrano family's adventures in a future, space-borne military is a worthy addition to her work. Here, she ties a lot of continuing stories together into a satisfying conclusion that could be, though I hope not, the ending of this particular franchise. Moon's Serrano Legacy series compares favorably with David Weber's Honor Harrington series, though I might give the edge to Weber for sheer brilliance.
I defy you to read the last few pages of Against the Odds without shedding a tear. I just sent this book on to a new reader, but not without re-reading those few pages. And yes, I shed another tear or two!
