I always keep a healthy skepticism with these kinds of books, but I have to say, this story was very compelling. Whether you believe the little boy actually was in Heaven or not, it really makes a person consider some deeper questions like 'is there a life after this one that I should be concerned about?' The story is told by the father and is simply his (and his wife's) struggle to understand if the son's story could actually be real. I loved it and thought it was very well done. I highly recommend it.

Loved it! One of the best reads of this genre that I've had in a long time. The story fell smoothly into place, the characters were good, and there were enough questions to keep you hooked. At times I couldn't put it down, at other times I couldn't pick it up, because I was afraid it would end too soon.

Ever hear of sin being a slippery slope? This book is a perfect character study of the extremes normal people can go to when faced with life-changing situations. One bad decision leads to another...and another...and before you know it, you've done things you would never have believed your integrity would allow. I enjoyed this book very much. I would have preferred less graphic sex, but I've gotten good at skipping over that stuff. The story was wonderfully heart-wrenching. I'm a little disappointed at the ending, but I wouldn't let that stop me from reading it.

I predict I will be the odd-man out, but here goes: If you try to guard your mind against depravity, this is the wrong book to read, lol. I SO wanted to love this book - it had intriguing stories and characters - but honestly, I had to quit half-way through. Some of the sections were just overly vile, and I got sick of multiple 'f'-bombs on nearly every other page. I understand that sometimes life can be gritty and depraved, but imo a true literary artist can create interesting (even debased) characters without relentlessly searing your brain with smut. Draw me into your world without making me feel filthy and hopeless. I think a huge opportunity was missed here to shine some light of hopefulness into what can be a very dark world. I suggest you read To Kill A Mockingbird instead.

I have mixed feelings about this book. While this story borrows from scripture, don't make the mistake of thinking that it follows scripture - it does not. In fact, it twists it in some cases. But the author is very careful to say that this is a FICTIONAL story and NOT a translation of scripture, so you can't say you haven't been warned. Having said that, the STORY was wonderful. Very well written, engaging, and thought-provoking. Even though this is out of one person's imagination, it very well could represent what life was actually like in old testament times - it is especially relevant if you are a woman. The only thing that could have made it better imo is if the story actually followed written scripture in the places where it strayed.

I loved this book! It was so real-life and down-to-earth, I really felt like it could have been written for me personally, even though these are issues that are a part of most every woman's life. It is very funny, but does a great job of helping you re-align your priorities. Very well-done and thought-provoking.

This book was the impetus for our family's homeschool journey. It is a wonderful resource if you aren't sure how to go about it, or what's expected, or how you would even begin. We are on our 5th year of homeschooling and wouldn't trade it for the world. Read this book if you have ever even thought about homeschooling in passing.
